Council presents Bass/Fadem Awards

CTA's State Council of Education recognized six teachers and four chapters for outstanding efforts in political action during 2002.

 

Paul Markowitz, a member of the Las Virgenes Education Association and a member of CTA's Board of Directors, won the overall Ted Bass Teacher-in-Politics Award.

 

Five teachers received CTA Teacher-in-Politics categorical awards:

 

Mike Noce, president of the Mount Diablo Education Association, won the Getting Others Involved category.

 

J. Robert Vinson, a member of the New Haven Teachers Association, won the State Priorities category.

 

Peggy N. Morgan, a member of the El Monte Union HSD Education Association, won the Local Priorities category.

 

Bern Allen, a member of the Simi Educators Association, won the Partisan/Non-partisan Activities category.

 

Martha Hanks, president of the Ravenswood District Teachers Association, won the Coalition Building category.

 

Four chapters won honors in the Joyce Fadem Chapter-in-Politics Awards Program.

 

The Reeds Creek Teachers Association won the Small Chapter award, which was accepted by RCTA President Linda Larsen.

 

The Ravenswood District Teachers Association won the Medium Chapter award, which was accepted by RDTA President Martha Hanks.

 

The San Diego Education Association won the Large Chapter award, which was accepted by SDEA President Terry Pesta.

 

The Bend Teachers Association won the Rookie Chapter award, which was accepted by Redding Service Center Chair Rich Valles.
