The changing of the guard

CTA Executive Director Carolyn Doggett joins new officers Vogel, Kerr and Sanchez as they thank members for electing them. Johnson prepares to pass the gavel. Council delegates from the "far northern" reaches pay tribute to Johnson. NEA officers Van Roekel, Weaver and Eskelsen (center) make a surprise appearance for a show of unity with the old and new teams of officers in California.

Pomp and circumstance was the order of the day as CTA's State Council of Education paid tribute to outgoing President Wayne Johnson and participated in the inauguration of the new team of officers - President-elect Barbara E. Kerr, Vice President-elect David A. Sanchez and Secretary-Treasurer-elect Dean Vogel.

The changing of the guard brought all three national officers - President Reg Weaver, Vice President Dennis Van Roekel and Secretary-Treasurer Lily Eskelsen - to Los Angeles for the event.

Kerr not only took the oath of office, but asked all Council members, CTA Board members and staff to do the same.

The new team officially takes office June 26.
