A Voice for the Redwoods is the story of a tree's 500-year lifetime. The book, written by Loretta Halter and illustrated by Emily du Houx, tells about redwood trees and their forest community, including the loggers who view the majestic wonders as revenue.
It is intended for students in grades 4-6.
The author is a member of the Franklin McKinley Education Association and teaches fifth grade at Seven Trees Elementary School in San Jose. She is donating 70 percent of her profits to nonprofit environmental organizations.
