TEST ALIGNMENT - Hancock, Mullin
Bill: AB 356
Would align California's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program with federal guidelines by exempting pupils in second grade from the testing requirement; would delete passage of the California High School Exit Exam as a state requirement for high school graduation while allowing a district to require the exam; and would delete the rewards and sanctions provisions in the Public Schools Accountability Act.

Would give all part-time faculty and contract employees of community college districts due process rights in retention of their contracts.

Bill: SB 272
Would require community college districts to offer Social Security coverage to part-time faculty.
Status: Passed Senate PE&R; sent to Senate Appropriations

COURSE LOAD FOR PART-TIMERS - Burton
Bill: SB 955
Would provide that paid professional and faculty development ancillary activities will not be part of the part-time faculty 60 percent load nor count toward tenure or full-time employment. (Amended 4/9)

STRS ENHANCEMENTS - Mullin
Bill: AB 265
Would base STRS pensions on the highest 12 months of compensation for all vested members, including those with fewer than 25 years of service.
Status: Passed Assembly PER&SS; sent to Assembly Appropriations

STRS COMPENSATION - Burton
Bill: SB 102
Would allow up to 36 days of unused sick leave to be counted in determining a STRS member's highest year compensation and eligibility for related bonuses. (Amended 4/29)
Status: Passed Senate PE&R; re-referred to Senate Appropriations
