William Hart's Never Fade Away tells the fictional story of a teacher who takes on the system when a university English department fails one of his ESL students. The teacher in the novel is fired for his defiance and fights back by filing a grievance, which mushrooms into a public hearing.
The story is told in alternating entries from two journals: one kept by the teacher, a Vietnam vet and novelist; the other by the student he defends, a refugee from South Vietnam.
A member of the California Faculty Association chapter at the California State University at Los Angeles, Hart teaches English and English as a Second Language.
The book costs $12.95.
