In response to the continuing need to identify, train and nurture members in rural chapters, CTA is again offering the CTA/ NEA Rural Issues Conference. It will be held Jan. 17-19 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas.
A variety of topics designed for the rural educator and small chapter member will be covered in 29 workshops. Among the topics are Accountability for Rural, Alternative, and Small Schools; Bargaining Issues: Teacher Induction; ESEA; Navigating School District Budgets; Rural Economics; How to Decipher Insurance Programs; Site Councils in Small Chapters; Legal Issues; Diversity Issues; Bargaining Health Benefits; Priority School Issues; Issues for County Offices of Education in Rural Counties; and How to be a Chapter President in a Rural Area.
The conference begins with registration on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a reception and light meal at 6:30 p.m. CTA staff will be available to discuss the various programs and resources available to members.
Saturday sessions begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m.
The conference ends at noon Sunday.
The registration fee is $85 per participant.
CTA will reimburse transportation costs for participants from chapters with members numbering 300 or less and for up to four participants from rural Service Center Councils.
Dec. 13 is the deadline to register, both for the conference and for hotel accommodations. The hotel rate is $109 (plus tax) single or double occupancy. If you wish to come in early or extend your stay, the rate is $89 (plus tax) per additional night.
