In statewide back-to-school radio ads, CTA Vice President Barbara E. Kerr offers tips and encouragement for parents who want their kids to do well in school.
"As this new school year begins, it's important to remember that it takes teamwork between teachers and families to get the job done right," Kerr says in one ad. "The California Teachers Association is offering families some proven tips that can help make a real difference."
Listeners are urged to go to the CTA website, where the tips are found by clicking on the "Family Involvement Tips" icon on the home page. Tips include creating quiet study areas for kids at home, meeting children's teachers, and establishing good homework habits for kids.
To listen to the ads, visit the CTA website [www.cta.org], click on "radio" under the press center menu and choose the family involvement spots, titled "Difference" and "Encouragement."
The outreach ads are part of CTA's ongoing parental involvement campaign.
"Getting kids motivated for school is very important," Kerr says in another ad. "So as they start school this year, sit down and talk to your kids. ... Just reminding your child that their success in school means a lot to you shows them that you value education."
Kerr's 60-second radio spots began Aug. 26 and air through Oct. 6 on 20 stations: KDOT-FM (Reno), KFBK-AM (Sacramento), KFMB-FM (San Diego), KFMF-FM (Chico), KFOG-FM (San Francisco), KHOP-FM (Merced), KINS-AM (Eureka), KPIG-FM (Monterey-Salinas), KPLM-FM (Palm Springs), KRRX-FM (Redding), KRXV-FM (High Desert area), KSOF-FM (Fresno), KSUE-AM (Susanville), KTOX-AM (Needles), KTYD-FM (Santa Barbara), KUZZ-FM (Bakersfield), KXO-AM (El Centro), KYSR-FM (Los Angeles), KZZE-FM (Medford), and KVTA-AM (Ventura area).
