Council presents Bass/Fadem awards

CTA's State Council of Education recognized seven teachers and four chapters for outstanding efforts in political action during 2000.

 

Accepting awards for political action are (from left) Janice Auld from North Sacramento standing in for Susan Katt, Claudia Sandberg-Larsen from Natomas, Sandy Fox from Covina, Leobardo Zamora from Pittsburg, Don Rowe from Stanislaus, Jan Guthrie from Stanislaus, James Rogers (behind Guthrie) from La Habra, Jane McGill from Sweetwater, Steve Savage from South San Francisco, Debra K. Redenbaugh from San Diego and Terry Pesta from San Diego.

 

Jane H. McGill, a member of the Sweetwater Education Association, won the overall Ted Bass Teacher-in-Politics Award.

 

Six other teachers received CTA Teacher-in-Politics categorical awards:

  • Steve Savage, a member of the South San Francisco Teachers Association, in the Getting Others Involved category;
  • Susan E. Katt, a member of the North Sacramento Education Association, and James M. Rogers, a member of La Habra Education Association, in the State Priorities category;
  • Mary Ellis, a member of the Natomas Education Association, in the Local Priorities category;
  • Debra K. Redenbaugh, a member of the San Diego Education Association, in the Partisan/Nonpartisan Activities category;
  • Leobardo Zamora, a member of the Pittsburg Education Association, in the Coalition Building category.

 

For the first time, awards were presented to chapters in various categories as part of the Joyce Fadem Chapter-in-Politics Award: The Stanislaus Union School District won the Small Chapter Award; the Covina Unified Education Association won the Medium Chapter Award; the San Diego Education Association won the Large Chapter Award; and the Natomas Education Association won the "Rookie" Chapter Award.
