Would fully fund the re-establishment of a unit for driver instruction in the California Department of Education to reimburse districts from the state's Driver Training Penalty Assessment Fund for the cost of running driver training programs. The programs should focus on students from low-income families, students living in rural areas where there is no alternative private instruction, and students classified as educationally and physically handicapped.

Would Would amend the Education Code to provide permanent status to non-supervisory, non-management certificated support staff in teaching positions and in support staff positions (i.e., nurses, counselors, social workers, psychologists and others) at county offices of education. Would provide retroactive protection for certificated support personnel who have already completed two full years of employment.

Would ensure that candidates for a teacher credential will not be subjected to changes in requirements or assessments following their entrance into a credential program.

 


 

CREDENTIAL RENEWAL FEES

Would grant a permanent teaching credential if the holder is a classroom teacher in the California public schools for 10 years and meets the following requirements: successful service; two credential renewals; 300 additional hours of professional development, or attainment of an advanced degree, certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards or preparation of a portfolio.

 


 

PRESCRIPTION DRUG INSURANCE

Would create a catastrophic insurance plan for prescription drugs for STRS retirees. (Spot bill)
