Explore the Web with MarcoPolo

MarcoPolo is a consortium of six discipline-specific Web sites that feature standards-based K-12 Internet content for the classroom, panel-reviewed links to top Web sites, search engines that help find information quickly, and supplemental resources.

A partnership between the MCI WorldCom Foundation and educational organizations, MarcoPolo maintains a Web site [www.wcom.com/marco polo] that's free for educators to access and use. Built on a "train the trainer" model, the program offers help for teachers interested in effectively integrating Internet content into the K-12 curriculum.

Partners providing content in the arts, economics, the humanities, mathematics, science and geography include ARTSEDGE from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; EconEdLink from the National Council on Economic Education; EdSITEment from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Council of the Great City Schools; Illuminations from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; Science NetLinks from the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and Xpeditions from the National Geographic Society.

Daylong professional development sessions can be provided to school districts free of charge. For information, visit the Web site [www. wcom. com/marcopolo/training/ request.shtml].
