On the trail with pioneers

"Many nights as we lay in our tent, or under the wagons, we heard either the loud barking of the gray wolf, or sharp querulous tones of the coyote, snapping and snarling [near] our head."

- Jean Loba

In Stories of Young Pioneers: In Their Own Words, Violet Kimball has collected memoirs, letters and journal entries of children and teens who made the overland journey and whose hardships included danger, disease and even death. The book is designed for readers ages 10 and up.
