Grammar Wars by Lassen Teachers Association member Tom Ready uses 179 games and dramatic improvisation to teach the various aspects of language arts: the ABC's, phonics, vocabulary, parts of speech, punctuation, sentence structure, reading comprehension, storytelling, writing and editing, vowels, irregular words, prefixes, suffixes and more.
As they perform in front of the class, students sharpen their theatrical skills as well as their language skills.
Games for every age and skill level are included. The appendix pairs the games with appropriate grade levels. Games include Active Anachronisms, Comma Along with Me, Have You Seen My Modifier?, Punctuate This! and Speech Spasm.
Ready has taught English and theater at Lassen High and Lassen Community College for more than 20 years. In 1998, he won a national Christa McAuliffe Fellowship for drama and literacy.
