NEA kit helps schools respond to crises

The NEA Crisis Communications Guide and Toolkit

was developed to help schools and associations prepare for, respond to and recover from a crisis. The handbook incorporates the experiences of educators who have weathered crises like the shootings at Columbine High School.

There are four volumes: "Being Prepared Before a Crisis," "Being Responsive During a Crisis," "Being Diligent - Moving Beyond a Crisis," and "Hands-on Assistance - Tools for Educators."

Since its publication, NEA members affected by tragic incidents around the country have used resources from the guide to come to the immediate aid of affected and vulnerable students, staff and community members.

The kit is available online [www.nea.org/crisis] or from NEA Communications, 1201 16th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036; (202) 822-7200.
