Californians Together, a coalition of education supporters that includes CTA, is creating the structure necessary to build a movement for language rights and educational access for language minority children.
Other goals include ensuring that:
- Every child has appropriate instructional materials aligned to state standards.
- Every child attends a school with district and state assessment systems that are appropriate and meaningful for English Language Learners, and where data are collected, disaggregated and analyzed to help improve schools.
- Every English Language Learner has an appropriately trained and credentialed teacher with expertise on second language acquisition.
The group is currently seeking clarification about exactly which teachers need to earn Cross-cultural Language Acquisition and Development (CLAD) certificates.
