This year, for the first time ever, CTA will hold two Good Teaching Conferences to accommodate the increased demand for this popular event. The Northern Conference will be held Jan. 26-28 at the San Francisco Airport Marriott in Burlingame; and the Southern Conference is slated for March 9-11 at the Westin Hotel in Los Angeles.
"Demand has been steadily growing during the last few years, and there was not enough room for the number of workshops needed," explains Beth Threatt, manager of CTA's Instruction and Professional Development Department, which organizes the conferences. "For this reason, we decided to hold one in the North and one in the South and see what happens. We expect to have about 800 people at each conference."
The workshops and speakers will be duplicated as much as possible, says Threatt. "Each year there are new presentations. First-time presenters will present at the conference closest to them."
"I Can Do It!" - CTA's classroom management training - will be featured at both conferences from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. (There is a pre-conference fee of $15.)
The registration fee for members is $150 ($125 before Jan. 5). The fee for Student CTA members is $30 ($25 before Jan. 5). For a registration form, contact your chapter or call (650) 552-5350. There is a "team discount" of $50 on registration fees for veterans accompanying new teachers with five years or less experience (limited to 50 teams) on a first-come, first-served basis.
Included in the registration fee are the Friday evening reception, Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfast.
