CCTC composition (Calderon)

AB 2541

Would convert the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing into a more independent standards board by increasing its teacher membership and by requiring a majority of its members to be classroom teachers.

SB 1976

Would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to the findings and declarations section of the existing California School Paraprofessional Teacher Training Program.

Would mandate that teaching credentials issued by the CCTC be renewed from the credential's expiration date and not the date of receipt.

Loan forgiveness

AB 2563

Would create a loan forgiveness program of $8,000 per year for economically disadvantaged college students who teach up to five years in subject matter shortage areas in a school within the first two API deciles. (Amended 5/2)

 

Held in Assembly Appropriations; issue was addressed as part of SB 1666 (Alarcon) and signed into law

Counselors

 

Would require districts to provide counseling by certificated personnel to students who are struggling with their gender/sexual orientation, family relationships, crises and violence prevention.

AB 2012

Would increase education support services and funding for foster youth through county offices of education. (Amended 8/25)

Would change Ed. Code Section 49079 to require that school officials or designees send written notice directly to teachers about violent crimes committed by students off-campus. (Amended 7/6/99)

Would provide for a uniform salary schedule for community colleges within a district. (Amended 8/18)

Right of retention (Wildman)

AB 2434

Would require community college districts to give qualified part-time faculty a preferred right of retention under specified conditions. (Amended 8/25)
