The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has streamlined the process for renewing credentials. The intent is to reduce the amount of paperwork so that the renewal process can be completed in 10 days.
Only requests for renewal submitted on the new "41-REN" form will qualify for priority handling. It can be downloaded from the CCTC Web page [www.ctc.ca.gov] or ordered by phone [(916) 445-5941].
The form can be used for renewal of clear, professional and professional clear credentials, or for the reissuance of emergency permits, including 30-day substitute permits.
The process is different in that applicants can self-verify completion of professional growth and service requirements; no longer have to submit the Professional Growth Plan and Record; and do not have to secure the advisor's signature.
The process puts the responsibility for renewal in the hands of the teacher. At the same time, however, it means regular audits will be conducted to verify compliance.
