United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriquez, son-in-law of UFW founder Cesar Chavez, sees teachers as the most important factor in a good education.
The son of a teacher and the father of a teacher, he told CTA's State Council that UFW's primary goals for its members are better wages, decent housing and a good education.
UFW members have worked long and hard for their goals, he said. One unit has worked 27 years for a contract, but has not lost hope. He enumerated recent victories and hinted that other victories are near.
He thanked CTA for its sponsorship of the Chavez Walk-a-Thon, and acknowledged the CTA Hispanic Caucus for its work with the Chavez Scholarship Fund.
