Sacramento – Today a broad and diverse coalition of business, teachers, firefighters, labor, seniors, transportation and health workers came together to urge Californians to vote No on Proposition 92 and to launch the campaign’s statewide radio advertising.
The sixty second radio ads express support for community colleges, but highlight the many problems with the initiative including the lack of funding for the nearly one billion in new state spending under Prop. 92, the program cuts that will likely be required to fund Prop. 92, the measure’s lack of accountability or guarantee money will reach students, and the fact that Prop. 92 won’t help low income students with costs (to listen visit www.noprop92.org). The ads will air from January 22nd through February 4th in the Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego media markets and are recorded in English and Spanish.
“The ads will communicate to California voters that while we all support community colleges, Prop. 92 is just not the way to go. Proposition 92 is a deeply flawed measure that will cause more problems than it claims to solve,” said Allan Zaremberg, President of the California Chamber of Commerce.
Dana Dillon, teacher and California Teachers Association board member, added that, “Sadly, Prop. 92 contains no accountability provisions. There will be no way to know how this new money is spent and no guarantee one cent will reach students.”
