BURLINGAME – The California Teachers Association commends the appointment today of experienced Los Angeles County high school teacher Leslie Littman to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
"There's no better choice than a classroom teacher to serve on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing," said CTA President Barbara E. Kerr. "The commission is much more effective when teachers are involved in the decisions that affect our profession. With her experience, Leslie will be a strong voice for educators across the state."
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell today announced the appointment of Littman, a social studies teacher at William S. Hart High School in Newhall in Los Angeles County. A former mentor teacher with 12 years of teaching experience, she was a member in 2001 of the state Joint Committee to Develop a Master Plan for Education, serving on the committee's professional personnel development workgroup. She was also the CTA liaison to the state Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Among its other responsibilities, the state commission issues teacher credentials and proposes policies in credential-related areas. O'Connell can make only one appointment to the 15-member commission, while the governor makes the remainder.
Littman, of Saugus, holds a master of education degree and a bachelor's degree in history and economics from the University of California at Los Angeles.
