Hesperia - On Monday, December 9th, hundreds of Hesperia Education Association members will rally in support of their association's bargaining positions at the Hesperia School Board meeting. HEA President Jim Pace will update HEA members on the current status of bargaining with the district outside the Sultana High School multipurpose room before the school board meeting. Pace will then address the school board members during their meeting.
According to Pace, the district's most recent offer to the HEA bargaining team was a cap on health benefits, and a salary raise less than the cost of living adjustment funds the district receives from the state. This offer comes at a time when the district has a reserve almost three times greater than the state requirement. "This is an insulting and unacceptable offer" Pace said.
Hesperia Education Association members have been working without a contract with the district for the last three years. Currently HEA and the district have a Memorandum of Understanding covering only salary and health benefits. This Memorandum expires June 30, 2003. Currently HEA and the district are at impasse and the second mediation session is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2002.
