ALISO VIEJO - Wednesday morning, October 23rd over a thousand Capistrano Unified Education Association members will march with picket signs and hand out leaflets to parents in front of Capistrano schools in support of the CUEA bargaining positions.
CUEA President Frank Weirath, said "In spite of the Capistrano Unified School District's claim of a 'fiscal squeeze' the fact-finding process that will begin today will prove that the district will have reserves in excess of $18 million. Weirath points out that the district's "fiscal squeeze" claims don't ring true and the district has not negotiated with CUEA in good faith. The leaflets teachers will be giving to parents will have graphs illustrating the districts abundant reserves, and a request for parents to contact the school board and superintendent, and demand that they bargain in good faith with CUEA.
Capistrano Unified School District is the only district in Orange County that has not settled their 2001-2002 contract with certificated employees. The average contract salary settlement in Orange County is 5%. Currently negotiations between the school district and the Capistrano Unified Education Association are at impasse and the fact-finding process will begin Wednesday, October 23rd.
