COMPTON - Frustrated and angered by working without a contract settlement for over a year, hundreds of Compton teachers will rally at the Compton Unified School District headquarters at 4:00 p.m on Monday, October 21 prior to a Board of Education meeting. CUSD has threatened Compton teachers, already among the lowest paid in the county, with health benefit cuts.
"Teachers in this district are stressed enough without having to come to work every day worrying about their health benefits," said Compton Education Association president Elsie M. Truby. "CUSD will never be able to recruit and retain the teachers this community needs until they start to treat teachers with respect. It's sad, because it's the kids who ultimately suffer."
Monday's rally is expected to put new pressure on the Board to treat Compton teachers fairly.
