SACRAMENTO - The California Teachers Association is sponsoring legislation to improve California's assessment and testing program. Representing more than 335,000 teachers across the state, CTA Vice President Barbara E. Kerr will testify before the Assembly Joint Hearing on Education and Higher Education today.
"As teachers, we understand the importance of testing as one way to measure student achievement," said CTA Vice President Barbara E. Kerr. "However, tests should reflect what children are learning in our classrooms. Students are spending too much time taking and preparing for high-stakes tests that are not fully aligned to California's state standards."
