Barbara Kerr: I'm Barbara Kerr, President of the California Teachers Association and a public school teacher.

Kids do best when families, teachers and students work together as a team. To find how families might best help, here are some tips from classroom teachers.

CTA Teacher #1: Well, a child's first teachers are parents and family members. So, if you show you care, your children will try harder in school.

CTA Teacher #2: Parents and teachers working together is the key to success. When family members attend back to school nights and parent teacher conferences, they can find out how things work in the classroom. And they can track their kid's progress.

CTA Teacher #3: Don't forget homework. Kids who do their homework and study for tests definitely do better in school. Families can help by setting a regular time for study in a quiet place.

Barbara Kerr: As this new school year begins, let's work together as a team to give our kids their best chance to succeed.

Announcer: This message was brought to you by the California Teachers Association, because every child deserves a chance to learn and no child succeeds alone.
