David Sanchez:
I’m David Sanchez, President of the California Teachers Association and a classroom teacher. The governor’s budget proposal would cut nearly $5 billion from our public schools. It means increasing class sizes by more than a third and laying off thousands of teachers and other educators.
Teachers:
Well as a teacher, I worry about my kids.
My classroom is already overcrowded. And these cuts will make it much worse.
Cramming more students into my classroom means even less time for the one-on-one attention they need.
My school district is eliminating art and music programs – and these are classes that motivate many kids to come to school and to stay in school.
Hundreds of teachers received layoff notices in my school district.
These cuts will be a giant step backwards.
We should be putting our students first. These budget cuts will leave them last.
David Sanchez:
California can't move forward if we don’t prepare our kids for tomorrow.
So, call the Governor and your legislators. Tell them, no more education funding cuts that hurt our students…our public schools…and our future.
