CTA is urging a major overhaul of the health care system in the state.
Unprecedented Campaign to Win Nat'l Health Reform in 2009 -- CTA, NEA part of coalition pushing for reform
The current health care situation is in crisis. CTA is urging reform legislation to make health care more affordable and accessible to all Californians.
Health care costs must be controlled, and reform legislation must be implemented to address efficiency in the health care system, offering quality care and patient choice.
CTA has joined several coalitions on health care, among them: It's OUR Healthcare! and Together for Health Care, and along with the various coalitions, has agreed on seven basic Health Care Principles.
CTA members will have the opportunity to participate in the health care coalitions' campaign to pass health care reform legislation, which began with the It's OUR Healthcare! coalition's "Road to Reform" bus tour in June. In the meantime contact your lawmaker and urge the rehaul of the health care system.
As part of our efforts, CTA co-sponsored SB 840 -- the Single-Payer health care bill proposed by state Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica). SB 840 is now a 2-year bill -- learn more.
CTA also supported AB 8, sponsored by Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles) and Senate Pro Tem Don Perata (D-Oakland), but the bill was vetoed by Gov. Scwarzenegger in mid October. The bill sought to make health coverage more available, affordable, and automatic in each of the three ways that consumers now get coverage: through employer health benefits, public coverage programs, and the individual market -- learn more.
