Legislative/Political Activities

CTA believes its members as citizens have the right as individuals to participate in the political process. It is CTA’s responsibility to promote membership involvement in political action in areas such as, but not limited to: recommendations and political activities on behalf of candidates supportive of CTA’s legislative positions; local/statewide activities in support of CTA’s legislative positions; cooperative programs with citizen groups friendly to members’ interests; voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts; special programs to involve such specific groups as retired teachers, new voters, parents and minority groups in the political process; models for local chapter implementation of political and legislative programs; activities to support CTA coordination with NEA policies and programs in regard to federal legislation and political issues; and, political reform legislation and initiatives which impact public education.

It is the organization’s responsibility to its members to monitor and take positions on legislation and the political process which impacts public education in California.
