Hopes to gather faculty comments
Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and their use in such areas as faculty evaluation has been a dominate topic among faculty in recent years, which is why CCA has developed an SLO Center on its website at

“In June 2010, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCCJC) had a first reading of changes they are making to their bylaws and standing policy statements. We’re asking that our chapter leaders examine issues we’ve presented on the CCA website and forward any comments you have regarding how these changes might damage or harm your local bargaining union,” said CCA to President Ron Norton Reel.
Reel, VP Lynette Nyaggah, and Consultant to Governance, Alan Frey met with Barbara Beno and shared the concerns expressed by our members. President Reel made a presentation before the “Commissioners” at their January 2011 meeting. It was the first time the ACCJC allowed a union to address them.
CCA has maintained that the state’s Accrediting Commission has gone beyond its scope in requesting that SLOs become part of faculty evaluation, and has strongly asserted that SLOs must be part of negotiations between the district and the faculty association.
CCA has followed up on these concerns by conducting workshops at its conferences and attempting to provide testimony to the commission’s director, Barbara Beno. In September, CCA sponsored a special workshop completely devoted to the issue. Presentations made at the workshop may be viewed at
