CTA initiative makes ballot
Meeting the required deadline, CTA turned in more than 800,000 signatures to qualify the Repeal Corporate Tax Loopholes Act for the November ballot. The initiative would rescind more than $2 billion in tax breaks handed out to big corporations last year without any requirements to create new jobs.
“In these tough economic times with public schools and colleges being cut more than $17 billion, everyone should be playing their fair share,” said CTA President David A. Sanchez.
In addition, CTA’s State voted to support these measures: the Financial Accountability in Redistricting Act; the Legislative Term Limits Reform Act; Passing the Budget On Time Act of 2010; and the State Parks and Wildlife Conservation Fund Trust Act.
Council opposed the Voters FIRST Act for Congress; the Safe, Clean and Reliable Drinking Water Supply Act of 2010; the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and Transportation Protection Act of 2010; the Sinclair Paint Initiative, and the California Jobs Initiative. Delegates also authorized CTA to spend up to $13 million from the initiative fund to support these CTA positions on November ballot measures.
