Vallejo Education Association | Christal Watts, President
For the past four (4) years, the Vallejo Education Association has bought school supplies for over 2,000 students annually in the Vallejo community. Since 2009, the VEA members agreed to spend approximately $10,000 of their dues to purchase these supplies. They also work with the public library to provide books for families to take home and keep.
The Vallejo Education Association believes that every child deserves a quality education and one way they can support that idea is through a program they developed, called “Helping Hands.” By providing books and supplies, the students of Vallejo have the necessary tools to help them in school. Furthermore, recognizing that many families do not have reliable transportation, VEA makes sure that every year, their “Helping Hands” event would be located in a different geographical area of the city in order to reach as many community members and parents as possible.
I am proud to present the CTA Chapter Human Rights Award to the Vallejo Education Association. Accepting the award on behalf of the chapter is Christal Watts, president.
