May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month, and CTA and Standard Insurance Company (The Standard) are committed to making sure you understand the need for safeguarding your income and the opportunities you have as a CTA member to protect yourself and your way of life.
Here are some places you can learn more about protecting your greatest financial resource:
• America’s Disability Counter: Find out how many working-age Americans experienced a disabling illness or injury today, so far this month or so far this year. Visit www.disabilitycounter.org to learn more.
• While you’re on the site, check out the box that says, “What’s My PDQ?” to calculate your own odds of experiencing an illness or injury that could force you to miss work for an extended period of time. The PDQ, or Personal Disability Quotient, calculator also helps determine your Earnable Income Quotient, which is how much you can expect to earn over the course of your working years – as long as disability doesn’t end or interrupt your career.
• Find out more about the voluntary Disability Insurance coverage available to you as a CTA member. These plans were created specifically to meet the income protection needs of California educators and education support professionals.
Take a moment to check your pay stub and benefits information to confirm that you have the income protection you need to safeguard your way of life. To learn more about the CTA-endorsed Disability Insurance plans, check the CTA website or call The Standard’s dedicated CTA Customer Service Department at 800.522.0406.
For costs and further details of the coverage, including exclusions, benefit waiting periods, any reductions or limitations and the terms, under which the policy may be continued in force, check out our coverage page, sign in and review the information or call The Standard’s dedicated CTA Customer Service Department at 800.522.0406 (TTY), 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
