If You Become Disabled or Seriously Ill

Coping with an illness or injury can be difficult – particularly if the condition prevents you from working. During such a difficult time, it’s important you understand the benefits available to you.

CTA Voluntary Group Disability Insurance Plan

File a claim for benefits under your CTA voluntary group Disability insurance plan (if you are a participant in this Plan). For details on how this Plan works and the process for claiming benefits, call The Standard dedicated Member Services Center at (800) 522-0406.

Note that while you are out on a disability your premium payments to the Plan will continue as long as you are receiving compensation from your district and thus premium deductions can be made. If you’re on an extended disability and payroll deductions end, your premium payments to this Plan will be waived.

CTA Voluntary Life Insurance Plan

If you are totally disabled while insured under the CTA Voluntary Life Plan your insurance may be continued subject to Plan provisions, filing timelines and eligibility guidelines. Contact The Standard dedicated Member Services Center at (800) 522-0406.

School District Benefits

Be sure you understand the benefits available to you through your school district. These District/Association negotiated benefits may include medical coverage, differential pay, workers' compensation benefits (if your condition is work-related) and time off benefits. Be sure you understand your rights under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and California law.

For information regarding FMLA and other leave benefits to which you may be entitled, contact your local CTA Primary Contact Staff (PCS).
