For the third month in a row, hundreds of placard-waving, chanting teachers and their supporters gathered before and during the regular Sweetwater Union High School District board meeting to protest what they say is the district’s refusal to bargain a new contract in good faith and the imposition of costlier health care rates.
In keeping with the holiday season, Monday night’s rally at the administration center in Chula Vista had a “Grinch and Scrooge” theme and chants of “Strike, Strike, Strike” were interspersed with “Hey. Hey. Ho Ho. Dr. Brand has got to go.” During the public comment portion of the meeting, a costumed Santa Claus presented Superintendent Ed Brand with a lump of coal.
