Remember me

:60 Radio, As Recorded

Narrator: Politicians in Sacramento and Washington talk a lot these days about reforming our public schools… ...but their top-down ideas are just like No Child Left Behind – they’re not working for California students.

Classroom Teacher: I'm Lysa Sasmann, a first grade teacher, who knows that 'one-size-fits-all' approaches fail to recognize the individual needs of my students. These misguided proposals could widen – not close – the achievement gap in our schools because they rely on test scores that label students as winners and losers. My students need smaller class sizes, art and music programs to give them a well-rounded education, and the resources they need to succeed.

DAVID SANCHEZ: Classroom teachers know education reform works best when parents and educators work together to meet the needs of students in every neighborhood school. This is David Sanchez, as a teacher -- and President of the California Teachers Association -- we've brought you this message because public education is essential to building stronger local communities -- and a better California for all of us.

Every child deserves a chance to learn and no child succeeds alone.
