CTA testified at the second joint informational hearing of the Assembly and Senate retirement committees on Wednesday.
The hearing was one of three aimed at finding solutions to the CalSTRS "unfunded liability," the funding needed to close the gap between the money CalSTRS earns and the money CalSTRS needs to underwrite the pension costs for current and future retirees.
CTA has been urging lawmakers for a fair solution including a boost in contributions from employers, the state, and employees. They also cautioned that Prop. 98 funds for classroom instruction and support should not be used to support the retirement system.
