CTA is urging lawmakers to approve two measures – SB 111 by Sen. Jim Beall (D-San Jose) and SB 44 by Sen. Leland Yee (D-Oakland) – that aim to make it easier for California residents to register and vote.
The Beall bill would allow voters to use their authorized "electronic signatures" as part of the voter registration process. The Yee bill would require all state agencies to link their own websites to the Secretary of State's online voter registration page. It would also make it easier for voters to register using technology used by local, state and the federal governments.
SB 111 has cleared the Assembly Elections and Reapportionment Committee and is headed to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The Assembly Elections and Reapportionment Committee also approved SB 44 and sent it to the Appropriations Committee.
