The Senate Education Committee voted down last Wednesday CTA-opposed SB 559, by Sen. Bob Huff
(R-Diamond Bar). This bill would have given K-12 school districts more time to send layoff notices – and less time for certificated employees to find work in other districts. In fact, the final layoff notice deadline would have been moved to June 15, during summer recess when appeals would be more difficult to make.
The Assembly Education Committee – at CTA's urging – voted down AB 815, a bill by Assembly Republican Caucus Chair Connie Conway (R-Tulare) that would have expanded the universe of schools that could have been closed or reconfigured by the pull of a "parent trigger."
