Association Help Moves Bill to Shore Up Student Safety

The Assembly Education Committee on Jan. 15 unanimously approved a CTA-backed measure, AB 135 by Assembly Member Education Chair Joan Buchanan (D-Alamo), which is designed to improve student safety.  The measure requires districts to train their employees annually on their policies and practices to protect students from abuse.

CTA believes local school districts and state agencies must take all necessary steps to make schools safe for students and teachers, as well as to prevent any type of child abuse and neglect.

The bill now heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for its next hearing.

Every child deserves a chance to learn and no child succeeds alone.
