VOICES

"It's ugly out there. There are critics who are out to blame CTA and unions for everything they don't like about public schools. When pressed, they say, 'We love teachers. We just don't like their unions.' That's their talking point, and it's straight out of Michelle Rhee's playbook. Well ... let's show them there is no difference between teachers and their unions."

VOICES

"Considering the great boost to pay and benefits that unions bring, it’s important that anyone who cares about the well-being of women workers also care about unions."

Organized Labor - Proud and Free

Thank a Union: 36 ways unions have improved your lifeDaily Kos

Labor Day - a creation of the Labor Movement - is a holiday intended to celebrate the toils of workers around the nation; a day to acknowledge the social and economic achievement of employees and employers.  It is, in fact, the workers who make and keep our economy strong.  Along with Labor Day, we now celebrate Labor History Month in May.

Not since the Great Depression have we experienced such volatility in our economy - volatility that is causing uncertainty and insecurity from the highest-paid CEOs to those retired or unable to work.

As we honor our workers every day - and particularly those who hold our children's futures in their hands, our educators - we also need to pull together and do the right thing to help return the economy to a healthier state.

It's time to strengthen our resolve and to reinvigorate the Union Movement. Working for a common goal - with everyone paying their fair share - will propel us to the more prosperous time of the recent past, a time when weren't stripping education budgets and other vital services, but enhancing them.

What you can do:

Check our Budget section. See how the new 2013-14 budget will help us recover from prior cuts in K-12 education.
