CTA to Live-Stream Common Core Workshops for 900 More
LOS ANGELES – Nearly a week of cutting-edge academic, political mobilizing and communications trainings for 1,000 California educators kicks off this Sunday, Aug. 3, at UCLA as part of the annual CTA Summer Institute.
A keynote speech by CTA President Dean E. Vogel kicks off the trainings Sunday night.
In addition to workshops on collective bargaining, tax fairness and economic justice, health benefits and school finance issues, the Aug. 3-7 CTA conference is training about 230 educators and school administrators on the Common Core State Standards. Another 900 educators across California are taking the Common Core training via live-streaming. Information about the online sessions is available here. A quick overview of the Common Core training and the experts giving it is here.
These dynamic new standards – adopted by 45 states – will greatly impact classroom teaching starting in the 2014-15 school year, when they become mandatory. CTA is helping to fill a need for educators seeking Common Core training by streaming its UCLA training for the second year in a row. The training by the CTA Instruction and Professional Development Department will provide learning experiences for classroom teachers and administrators to gain usable in-depth knowledge of the Common Core standards and Smarter Balanced Assessments. To locate all CTA workshops, see the interactive UCLA map here.
