ESP Day Recognizes Contributions of Classified School Employees
The California Teachers Association marks today, the third Tuesday in May, as CTA ESP Day, a time to honor the enormous contributions thousands of classified employees make to the success and safety of California students.
“Education support professionals play a vitally important role every day in our schools,” said CTA President Dean E. Vogel. “Bus drivers, paraeducators, clerical staff, cafeteria workers, custodians and maintenance workers are all key members of the education team in every school and district. Our schools simply couldn’t function without them.”
While we honor our support professionals today, we must also recognize that deep education budget cuts in the past few years have led to thousands of classified layoffs and cuts to many of the important services they provide. Yet these professionals continue to work even harder to make sure our schools are clean, efficient, and safe.
CTA encourages the public to give special “thank-you’s” to these hard working, caring men and women today and to recognize all they do for students. You can share an e-card honoring education support professionals at cta.org/en/Parents-and-Community/Awareness-Holidays/ESP-Day-2012/ESP-Day-2012-ecard.aspx .
