BURLINGAME – California’s classroom teachers are taking to the airwaves in statewide CTA television ads launched today about getting back to schools and their promise for better jobs and a better future for students.
Reaching every media market in the state, a series of TV, newspaper and billboard ads unveiled today, along with radio and online ads launched last week, all touch on the value of public schools in our communities. Sacramento, Bay Area and Southern California educators volunteered to take part in the three 30-second television spots rotating in for viewers through Sept. 25.
“A brighter future for California starts right here in classrooms like mine,” a teacher says, standing in one classroom setting. Themes in the ads of how teachers’ jobs help students land real jobs – and how all students deserve the chance for a well-rounded education – are a reminder of why California must rebuild schools after years of state cuts.
“I believe in quality schools and colleges that prepare our kids for good-paying jobs,” another teacher says into the camera. Schools are where “dreams of innovations that could change the world become real,” adds another educator.
A school bus driver declares, “I believe strong public schools and colleges make our communities even stronger.”
“Join us,” says Dean E. Vogel, president of the 325,000-member California Teachers Association.” He then concludes in unison with several teachers: “Let’s all get back to schools.”
This growing campaign now includes ads in more than 54 ethnic newspapers – translated into seven languages – and billboards in Humboldt County, Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Victorville and San Diego. San Francisco mass transit shelters have ads as well. Radio ads are airing on 91 stations.
