CTA President David A. Sanchez Released the Following Statement: “The governor’s announcement today that the state budget deficit is billions worse than expected and even more painful cuts are on the way for California schools, magnifies why voters must approve Propositions 1A-1F on next Tuesday’s statewide ballot.
“There is no wolf in sheep’s clothing. The impact of these budget cuts is very real to the students and educators of California. To the 27,000 teachers who received pink slips this year, this is not a scare tactic. To the students whose dropout prevention program was eliminated, this is not a scare tactic. To the students who have already had their music, art, physical education and sports programs cut, this is not a scare tactic.
“If voters fail to approve the propositions, our schools will undergo another round of massive cuts—further unraveling public education in this state and hurting our kids.
“Our students and our schools deserve better than this. We all have to stop and think before we vote in Tuesday’s election about whether this is what we want for our students and our future. It’s time for Californians to stop things from getting worse. And that means doing what’s best for California and passing Propositions 1A-1F.”
