BURLINGAME – The California Teachers Association is assisting educators and education support professionals who are victims of the massive fires burning in Southern California.
“Our thoughts go out to our colleagues, our students and all the people in Southern California who are victims of these devastating fires,” said CTA President David A. Sanchez. “Despite threats to their own homes, many CTA members are volunteering their time to provide lessons to children in evacuation sites across Southern California and will be there for students as they return to school.”
“We know it will take a massive effort to recover, but CTA is pleased it can offer our members immediate grants to help them and their schools get through this disaster,” said Sanchez.
The CTA’s Disaster Relief Fund gives out thousands of dollars in small grants to members affected by natural disasters. CTA members may apply for these grants to help them in the recovery of personal losses to their homes and their schools. The grants—in amounts of up to $1,500—are intended to help members pay bills and purchase necessities when there is no other source of immediate assistance. All contributions go directly to members in need.
For information on how to obtain a grant, CTA members can visit CTA’s website, www.cta.org.
