“Teachers across California are pleased that the Senate finally reached agreement today on a state budget that protects public education. Teachers, administrators, school employees and parents are all breathing a collective sigh of relief that this budget protects the minimum funding requirements of Proposition 98, provides cost-of-living adjustments for all school programs, and is just in time for the new fall semester. We appreciate Senators Abel Maldonado and Dick Ackerman showing leadership and voting for the budget. It was the right thing to do for our schools, students and the people of California.
“We are extremely disappointed that the budget will reinstate funding for standardized testing of second graders which ended July 1. We will continue our efforts to create a testing system that is more appropriate for young learners.”
