Tyrone Cabell, a special education teacher for 36 years with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, is serving his third three-year term on the Board, which expires June 25, 2016.
He represents teachers in southeastern Los Angeles County. He is assigned to Compton by the Office of Education, where he teaches third- and fourth-graders with disabilities.
Cabell is past chair of State Council's Special Education Committee, the African American Caucus, and the Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee (EMAC).
His union activism work includes serving as past president of the Los Angeles County Education Association, and, over a 12-year period, as chair, vice chair or treasurer of the CTA Southeastern Service Center Council.
He holds a bachelor’s from California State University-Dominguez Hills in Carson and a master’s from United States International University in San Diego. His teaching credentials are from CSU-Los Angeles.
Cabell’s sister is a teacher in Southern California as well.
