Kendall Vaught

District M

Veteran teacher Kendall Vaught is serving her first full (three-year) term on the CTA Board, after having served for one year.  Representing members in parts of Orange and Riverside Counties, she has been elected to serve District M for a term that expires in 2015.

With 39 years of teaching experience, Vaught has taught such diverse subjects as earth, life and physical sciences, advanced computing, art, Spanish and ELL at the middle school and grades 3-5 at the elementary level. She has served as Department Chair, Peer Assistance and Review panel member and as a BTSA coach. At CSULB she taught in the Science Preparation Department.

Vaught has been involved as site representative, treasurer, president, State Council delegate, and on the bargaining team of the Los Alamitos Education Association. In addition, Vaught has served as vice chair and secretary of the Orange Service Center Council and as NEA director of District 9, representing parts of Orange and San Gorgonio Service Center Councils.  She has represented educators on the California P-16 Council.

Vaught obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees from U.C. Santa Barbara, the University of La Verne, USIU and CSU Pomona. Having planned a career in the Foreign Service, Vaught says she changed directions after becoming ‘hooked’ on teaching when she accepted a work-study job at an elementary school while in college.

She lives in Huntington Beach with her husband, Milton, and has two daughters. Email her at kvaught@cta.org.  Download bio.
