A strong advocate for teachers at the local and state levels, Dana Dillon has been an educator for 30 years in the Weed Union Elementary School District in Siskiyou County and is serving her second three-year term on the Board, which expires June 25, 2013.
She is Chair of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System board, after being elected to the pension board in 2003, and still serves on that panel. With assets of about $157 billion and nearly 850,000 members, STRS is the second-largest public pension plan and the largest teachers’ retirement fund in the United States.
Dillon’s CTA Board district represents thousands of Northern California teachers in 23 counties. The counties in her district are Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen,Trinity, Shasta, Tehama, Plumas, Glenn, Butte, Sierra, Colusa, Sutter, Yuba, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Stanislaus, Yolo and Solano.
Her CTA experience includes serving as president of Weed Classroom Teachers Association and as vice chair and chair of the CTA State Council of Education Retirement Committee, as well as serving as a CTA State Council delegate for many years. She also represented local teachers as a director on the National Education Association Board of Directors.
She holds a bachelor’s in liberal studies from Chico State University, where she also earned her multiple-subject teaching credential and her library media teaching credential.
