A strong advocate for teachers at the local and state levels, Dana Dillon has been an educator for 32 years in the Weed Union Elementary School District in Siskiyou County and is serving her third three-year term on the Board, which expires June 25, 2016.
She is trustee of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System Board, after being elected to the pension board in 2003. On that panel Dillon chaired the Board for five years, and continues to serve. With assets of about $190 billion and nearly 850,000 members, STRS is the second-largest public pension plan and the largest teachers’ retirement fund in the world.
Dillon’s CTA Board district represents thousands of Northern California teachers in 22 counties. The counties in her district are Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Trinity, Shasta, Tehama, Plumas, Glenn, Butte, Sierra, Colusa, Sutter, Yuba, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Yolo and portions of Sacramento and Solano Counties.
Her CTA experience includes serving as president of Weed Classroom Teachers Association and as vice chair and chair of the CTA State Council of Education Retirement Committee, as well as serving as a CTA State Council delegate for many years. She also represented local teachers as a director on the National Education Association Board of Directors.
She holds a bachelor’s in liberal studies from Chico State University, where she also earned her multiple-subject teaching credential and her library media teaching credential.
