Research shows that regular physical activity during childhood and adolescence helps build healthier bones and muscles, increases self-esteem, and may reduce the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. In addition, physical activity and fitness have been shown to be highly correlated with academic success.
CTA is a sponsor of the Governor's Challenge Competition -- a competition designed to get exercise and a healthy routine incorporated into the regular school week.
The Challenge:
Be active 30-60 minutes a day at least 3 days a week for 4 weeks in addition to the physical activity kids do as part of their school's regularly scheduled PE classes.

Grand Prize -- a brand new fitness center
Eleven $5,000 awards for physical activity equipment, plus a $1,000 Longs Drugs shopping spree for one student at each school

Certificate of Completion signed by the Governor and an official Governor's Council of Physical Fitness and Sports Patch
