Governor's Challenge Competition

Research shows that regular physical activity during childhood and adolescence helps build healthier bones and muscles, increases self-esteem, and may reduce the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. In addition, physical activity and fitness have been shown to be highly correlated with academic success.

CTA is a sponsor of the Governor's Challenge Competition -- a competition designed to get exercise and a healthy routine incorporated into the regular school week.

The Challenge:

Be active 30-60 minutes a day at least 3 days a week for 4 weeks in addition to the physical activity kids do as part of their school's regularly scheduled PE classes.

The Prizes:

Schools

Grand Prize -- a brand new fitness center

Eleven $5,000 awards for physical activity equipment, plus a $1,000 Longs Drugs shopping spree for one student at each school

Deadline to complete the Governor's Challenge is April 30. For more information and to sign up for the competition, go to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports website.
